Ethanol

A high octane, clean burning, and renewable fuel. The use of ethanol reduces harmful auto emissions, offers consumers a cost-effective choice at the pump, and decreases the amount of expensive crude oil needed to satisfy the nation’s thirst for transportation fuel.

Ethanol is produced at more than 175 facilities nationwide and blended into unleaded gasoline in varying percentages. It is most commonly retailed as E10, a blend of 10 percent ethanol (90% gasoline) for use in all automobiles.

Increasingly, ethanol is also available as E85, the 85 percent ethanol blend for use in Flexible Fuel Vehicles. E85 is the term for motor fuel blends of 85 percent ethanol and just 15 percent gasoline. E85 is an alternative fuel as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Besides its superior performance characteristics, ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline; it is a completely renewable, domestic, environmentally friendly fuel that enhances the nation’s economy and energy independence.

Tests have shown that E85 vehicles reduce harmful hydrocarbon and benzene emissions when compared to vehicles running on gasoline. E85 can also reduce carbon dioxide (CO2), a harmful greenhouse gas and a major contributor to global warming.

Renewable Diesel

Responding to the demand for cleaner-burning diesel fuel, refineries, and suppliers have introduced various fuels derived from renewable resources. One such renewable diesel option is hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). Renewable Diesel is produced using the same components as biodiesel but with a different process that modifies the properties of the final renewable diesel fuel product.

Despite being newer, Atlantic Petroleum is a trusted HVO fuel supplier. Please contact us today to learn if renewable diesel is viable for your current operations.

Benefits of Renewable Diesel

  1. Lower carbon emissions: HVO is considered a cleaner-burning fuel. It produces smaller particulate, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxide emissions than its first-generation biodiesel and conventional diesel counterparts.
  2. Superior fuel efficiency: HVO’s high cetane value leads to more complete combustion and better engine performance. As a result, those using it often experience better fuel efficiency and cost savings down the line.
  3. Sustainable production: HVO is produced from waste and residues. Many regard it as a renewable and sustainable energy source that helps reduce businesses’ reliance on more harmful alternatives.
  4. Engine compatibility: With properties similar to traditional diesel fuel, HVO eliminates the need to alter engine design or modify fuel injectors. Based on your locale, operating conditions, and seasonal climate changes, we can also recommend blends or additives to maximize lubricity and reduce engine wear.
  5. Cold weather performance: HVO was designed to perform well in cold weather conditions and, with the right blend of additives, can ensure reliable operation and reduce the risk of fuel-related issues during winter.
 Biodiesel

Biodiesel is a clean-burning alternative fuel produced from domestic, renewable resources. It does not contain petroleum but can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend that can be used in diesel engines with little or no modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. Biodiesel is great for the environment because it is made from renewable resources. It is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as fast as sugar. Biodiesel also has lower emissions than regular diesel since it is made in the USA from renewable resources such as soybeans. We are committed to helping our community by providing cleaner burning alternative fuels.

• Cuts emissions
• Environmentally safe
• Safe to use, handle, and store
• Reduces compounds linked to cancer
• Cleaner burning alternative fuel
• Reduce oil dependence
• Meets federal clean air standards
• Stimulates American economy
• Runs great in off-road equipment
• Cuts cost of fueling

Renewable Diesel vs. Biodiesel

Renewable diesel and biodiesel are similar fuels. The fuels are made from the same feedstocks and offer lower carbon emissions than petroleum diesel. In addition, they can be used in virtually any existing diesel equipment.
One factor that distinguishes renewable diesel from biodiesel is the production process and specifications. In biodiesel production, the feedstock is reacted with methanol to produce fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). With renewable diesel, the feedstock is reacted with hydrogen during a process called hydrotreating. Renewable diesel is a two-step process, compared with just one step for biodiesel.
